ABSTRACT: The southwestern region of Uzbekistan provides unique opportunities for
observation of patients with low pressure glaucoma due to the presence of a large number of
hypotensive patients in the general population. This work contains an analysis of our own clinical
observations of 42 patients (84 eyes). Monitoring of the main visual functions, the magnitude of
the ophthalmotonus and the state of the optic disc (according to optical coherence tomography)
was carried out. Under the influence of local antihypertensive, general neuroprotective and
angiotropic complex therapy in terms of up to 8 years, it was possible to stabilize decreasing of
visual acuity in 46 eyes (58.3%). The visual field did not worsen in 28 eyes (33.3%), and even
slightly improved in 26 eyes (30.9%). As a result of antihypertensive therapy, ophthalmotonus
decreased by an average of 2.3 ± 0.7 mm Hg in 51 eyes. With repeatedly measurements of the
excavation area, it turned out to be equal to an average of 1.17 ± 0.38, in later periods it expanded
to 1.38 ± 0.41 mm. Unfortunately, its reverse development was not observed. Arterial hypotension
is a negative factor aggravating the decay of visual functions in glaucoma.
